  • Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

I love Sundays. In such a busy world, it's nice just to take time to relax and what better way than a leisurely breakfast followed by baking some bread for lunch.

    Take

500 g Strong Wholemeal Bread Flour

    ½ tsp Salt

    1 tsp Quick Yeast

    1 tsp Sugar

    325 ml Warm Water

    1 tbsp Vegetable Oil

Put it all in a large bowl and give it a good knead until it's soft and smooth (very good for getting rid of excess energy and frustration!!), alternatively put all the ingredients in the kenwood with the dough hook and leave to work it's magic for 10 minutes whilst you have a nice cup of tea.

Cover and leave somewhere warm for about an hour, go and have a bath.

'Knock back' (squish) the dough and form into rolls or one big loaf. Cover it lightly and leave it again while you go and get dressed.

Bake at 220c/Gas 7 for about 40 minutes until it's lovely and golden, the bottom sounds hollow when you tap it and the house it filled with the brilliant bread smell.

Sit and enjoy your hard work with some jam and a cuppa x

  • A fresh new year

After a fabulous, relaxing Christmas and New Year, it's on with the good stuff. We're really looking forward to the coming year and have started booking in some great events. We'll be supporting the Derbyshire Eco Centre (Nr Middleton and Wirksworth) in mid April by serving fair trade hot and cold drinks and home made treats (all served in eco friendly, 100% biodegradable packaging too) to the lovely visitors at the open weekend. Then later in the year, look out again for the big green Mess Tent at the local music festivals. More details to follow... SO exciting......

  • Jingle bells.....

It's been a great couple of weeks, providing some great people with healthy, delicious buffets and canapes. We're now looking forward to the festive season, with the Festive Fayre on the 25th November (Imperial rooms, Matlock 7-9pm), the Matlock Victorian market at Hall Leys Park (first weekend in December) and our regular Christmas orders on the way. There's still some time to make an order for Christmas (last orders are 20th December for mince pies, cakes and edible goodies)

  2. First of all a huge thank you it was perfect and everyone was delighted with the quality, presentation and quantity. I had ordered a picnic for 4 thinking that would be enough for a light snack for 10 and actually it was really very generous and there was more than enough for all of us. The cakes were fantastic and our 'hen' was delighted with the decoration and the cakes themselves. Thank you thank you thank you!
